Ingredients:

  • 1 kg beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup calamansi juice or lemon juice
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional garnish: sliced onion rings and chopped spring onions

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, calamansi juice (or lemon juice), minced garlic, sliced onions, and ground black pepper. Mix well to create the marinade.
  2. Place the beef sirloin slices in a large resealable bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the beef, ensuring that all slices are coated. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, allowing the flavors to infuse.
  3. Heat cooking oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Remove the beef slices from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later use.
  4. Working in batches, sear the beef slices in the hot pan until browned on both sides. Transfer the seared beef to a plate and set aside.
  5. Return the seared beef slices to the pan. Pour in the reserved marinade and beef broth (or water). Stir gently to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan and simmer for about 10 minutes or until the beef is tender and cooked to your desired doneness.
  7. Taste the sauce and season with salt if needed.
  8. Transfer the Beef Steak Filipino Style to a serving platter. Garnish with sliced onion rings and chopped spring onions, if desired.
