Ingredients:

  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs) large shrimp, shelled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup lemon soda (e.g., Sprite or 7UP)
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1 head of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 red and green chili pepper (optional)
  • Lemon wedges for garnish (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for sauce in step 6)

Procedure:

  1. Marinate the Shrimp (10 minutes): Place 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of large, shelled, and deveined shrimp in a bowl. Pour 1/2 cup of lemon soda (e.g., Sprite or 7UP) over the shrimp, ensuring they are fully submerged. Allow the shrimp to marinate in the lemon soda for about 10 minutes to impart a delightful citrus flavor.

  2.  Sauté Garlic (2 minutes): In a large skillet or pan, melt 1/4 cup of salted butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic to the melted butter. Cook the garlic over low heat, stirring constantly, until it turns a light golden brown. Be cautious not to overcook, as burnt garlic can taste bitter.

  3. Cook Shrimp (4 minutes): Increase the heat to high and drain the marinated shrimp, discarding the lemon soda. Add the shrimp to the pan with the garlic and butter. Cook the shrimp on high heat, stirring frequently, until they turn vibrant orange and are fully cooked. This usually takes around 3-4 minutes.

  4. Season and Finish (2 minutes): Season the cooked shrimp with 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper and salt to taste if needed. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of lemon juice over the shrimp and stir to ensure an even coating. Add the chili pepper and 2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh parsley to the pan and cook for an additional 30 seconds to infuse the flavors.

  5. Serve (5 minutes): Transfer the Garlic Butter Shrimp to a serving platter, and if desired, garnish with lemon wedges. Serve hot and enjoy this mouthwatering dish as a delightful appetizer or a main course, paired with rice, pasta, or crusty bread.

  6. Optional: Prepare Sauce in the Same Pan (2 minutes): In the same pan, pour the remaining marinade and bring it to a boil. Season with salt to taste. Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the sauce. In a separate bowl, dissolve 1 tablespoon of cornstarch in 1/4 cup of water. Gradually pour the cornstarch mixture into the boiling sauce while stirring constantly. Continue to cook and stir until the sauce thickens.

Delight your taste buds with the incredible flavors of Garlic Butter Shrimp, prepared in just 25 minutes. The optional sauce with extra butter adds an extra layer of flavor and richness to the dish!
